What is Life?

“Life is not Death!”  (Davidoff)

This young boy displays so many wonderful elements of life.  His fisted left hand reflects an extreme emotion, while the blurred right hand expresses motion.  The open mouth expresses joy and the spark in his eyes and upward  gaze reflect a  spirituality.  He also displays his uniqueness and independence.

What is Life?

Life is a highly complex happening .  A single definition does not do it justice.   When viewed in contrast to death, there is an immediate clarity, since death is a  distinct  single entity – or so it seems from this side.

Metaphysical - Spark of Life

Life is such a complex happening . A single definition does not do it justice.   A  spark of life is  the essence of the being, more easily identified when placed next to a dead being or biological structure.  The spark is easy to see when looking into the eyes of humans or animals but not so when looking at other living things, unless they display voluntary movement.

It is an impossible task to give the definition of life  justice in this preliminary introduction. The following quotes from people from all facets of life, and from all ages, provide some insight into the miraculous entity.
